Lending Center Processor Amanda Hollingworth delivers check to CASA Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children.

Lending Center Processor Amanda Hollingworth helped deliver a $700 check to Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children Santa Barbara County in Santa Maria. With money raised from CoastHills Credit Union's first annual chili cookoff, we donated the same amount to each CASA organization in our five-county field of membership. – Joshua D. Scroggin

Over the summer, our employees brought the heat to our first-ever company chili cook-off. Spice racks were unleashed, recipes were shared, and taste buds were treated to a selection of spicy stews!

The competition featured an official tasting event and awards for top prizes. To top it all off, entry fees and proceeds were pledged to one of our dearest causes, Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children. CASA volunteers are sworn officers of the court who advocate for and become the voices of foster children when they enter the Juvenile Dependency Court system.

With more than a dozen entries and many more folks on hand to taste each of the steaming pots of chili, we raised $3,500. That amounts to $700 for each CASA organization in the five counties of CoastHills’ membership. It was a hearty first effort, but here’s to making next year’s chili cookoff meatier than ever!
