With many public events canceled in wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, it’s created serious challenges for local nonprofits who depend on fundraisers to support their efforts making a difference on the Central Coast.

Enter CASA of San Luis Obispo County, an organization in support of local foster youth that’s giving virtual fundraising a unique tangible experience.

With Rendezvous 2020, CASA is inviting everyone to tune in free to its virtual presentation. The organization is also offering pick-up packages of cocktail kits from Sidecar Cocktail Co., wine from Matthews Vineyard and desert trays from Cakes by Judy for virtual guests to enjoy before viewing the presentation.

Packages range from $60 to $125 and are available at the fundraising website.

CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, recruits, trains and supervises volunteers who advocate for the vulnerable population of abused and neglected children within the court system. The organization’s goal is to ensure that each and every child grows up in a safe, nurturing and permanent home.

HOW COASTHILLS SUPPORTS CASA AND OTHERS

In September, Rendezvous 2020 received a $500 sponsorship from the CoastHills Credit Union Community Action Sponsorship Program.

The CoastHills program awards grants of up to $500 per year per organization to community nonprofits throughout the Credit Union’s field of membership. On pace to give away $30,000 by the end of the year, Community Action Sponsorships are fully funded through a one-time $5 new-member fee, and grant recipients are chosen by a volunteer committee of CoastHills employees.

In addition to the CASA fundraiser, the committee also approved a $250 sponsorship to ECOSLO, which just finished promoting the organization’s 36th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day.

Titled “Creeks to Coast Cleanup 2020” and run a little differently this year, the effort called on local residents to take the initiative with their household unit to select a day in the last two weeks of September to perform a self-guided outdoor cleanup.

Participants were encouraged to pick up trash in neighborhoods, parks, beaches, creeks, streets, sidewalks, drainage areas, natural areas and trails to help prevent those items from flowing into and polluting the ocean.

If you know of a local nonprofit in need of funding, please visit the CoastHills Community Foundation at the Credit Union’s website to fill out an application for a Community Action Sponsorship.
