Evaluating Credit

Here's how your credit is scored at CoastHills

CoastHills Credit Union is committed to being a nondiscriminatory lender. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)-Regulation B is a federal civil rights law that protects you from being discriminated against by lenders, based on any of the following reasons:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Religion
  • National origin – The country you or your ancestors were born in
  • Sex (including gender)
  • Marital status
  • Age (as long as the applicant is old enough to enter into a contract)
  • Receiving money from any public assistance program
  • Exercising your rights under certain consumer protection laws

CoastHills utilizes a credit scoring model to evaluate applications for consumer credit products. A credit scoring model is an automated system that evaluates an applicant’s creditworthiness based on key attributes of the applicant and aspects of the transaction in conjunction with an evaluation of income, assets, liabilities and additional information about the applicant, to determine whether an applicant is creditworthy.

More practically, credit scoring is the process of collecting information on an applicant including credit history, analyzing that information, assessing the risk involved in extending credit to the applicant, and making a decision to accept or decline the applicant based on the assessed risk.
